Editing our own posts

Tuesday, June 30, 2009
12:13 AM
When I log in as someone other than the forum owner I appear to be unable to edit my own posts. Is this capability to be implemented or is it just forum owner/moderator ability.

Is there an ability to do signature blocks yet as per N54 v2? Having to type my details on every post sucks, especialy since I constantly forget and I can't edit my posts!

As far as the editing issue is concerned, it should be setup to allow people to edit their own posts.  This has to do with what we call the Participant role in forums (which is what it's set to by default for most users).  It may be just that the Participant role doesn't have the permission to revise (edit one's own) posts.  That should be a very simple thing to fix Smile

Signatures... not just yet... but I'll make this a priority.  Thanks for the report and the feedback!

Close but not quite

I can now edit my post but it then 'grey's' out the whole page and I can't do anything until I refresh it. It also gives me the option to edit someone elses post in the drop down box, even when not in moderator log in, then it denies me acces to do it.

My testers have also requested a 'preview' option so they can see what the post will look like before actualy posting it.

Thanks - I'll look into the grey screen issue, the other one (the edit button appearing even when you shouldn't be able to edit) should be simple to fix.  What browser and OS combination were you using?

As far as preview is concerned, that shouldn't be terribly difficult to implement, although we felt that preview wasn't necessary mainly because we're now using a WYSIWG editor which effectively shows a live preview while you're typing.  While the editor doesn't show a perfect preview, we can certainly tweak it to make it look more like the forum.

update

Okay, I have an update on the editing issue.  We've fixed the one issue where you can edit anyone's post (even if you shouldn't be able) so that fix will be going out this afternoon.  Also researching the other issue as well.

Hi David,

We've identified what was happening with the other editing issue (the grey screen) and a fix should be going out tomorrow.

Thanks for that. I use Vista and IE8 combo to view but my forum people have everything ranging from IE6/7/8 to Firefox and varioous OS.

Another Edit problem is that when you go in to edit your previous msg it deletes everything you have done before and you have to type it all again.

Sending out the editing fix in a couple of minutes.  As far as the post disappearing when you edit, I know that this was an issue a couple of days ago, but thought we had that fixed.  Is it still happening to you?

I can edit it on this forum without it disappearing but on my own forum it dissapears everytime. I thought it may have been just a hang over from code in an old post but I made a new comment and went back to edit it only to have everything dissapear.
