We just added a new group here yesterday as we're looking for someplace else to move our current small private group and this seemed like a great place to start. I am trying to get the hang of it and have figured a lot of it out, but still have lots of questions!Managing my Communinity - Groups - Can I add new groups?
I figured out how, within the community page, I could select the user who posted something on the left and drop down and add them to the various groups. It seems to have worked fine for one user...another user shows up as Pending to the group where I added her. She said she got some blank emails with just the Visigroups logo in them. I go the same email when I tested it as myself with a user login. It says You've Been Added to the Group...but not WHICH group or anything else. Her email says Pending though.
Under Website Layout it does not seem to keep the information I save in Site Name. I've saved it a few times.
I select one of my forum titles and to to the Roles. Sometimes I see the roles, sometimes I don't. Sometimes after I save the roles and then I see several valid group names, then they change to numbers.
As for the Editing the roles for each group, I only get Manager, Reader and Blocked. How can I make somebody a Reader who can also post. For now I'm making those people Managers, but I really don't want everybody to be able to delete other people's posts, not that I think it will happen on purpose but still not good. Is there a way to either have a role that has read and post capability only?
In an effort to make this group private, I am thinking for right now I need to give everybody that logs in the ability to post, then I can select from there what role they will have, and after they have all found the new "home" I can then block access from reading to those that are not registered. Does that sound correct?
Also when posting, I can't seem to figure out a way to put images within a post. Do they have to be hosted elsewhere? Even then I've selected images hosted on another personal site and they don't show up in the post. Also we can't seem to select any smilies in any of the posts. There what appears to be a dropdown (it's a B though, not the smilie face that seems to appear here in this forum/community...as you see I can do it here!) Also there seems to be an area below that B that in mouseover displays different names of smilies, but there is nothing to select that shows up, though if you mouseover in the area you get popups for different smilies...just no display of them or a way to put them in posts.
Thanks for any help anybody can provide here!
Managing my Communinity - Groups - Can I add new groups?
We don't have an interface for that right now, so you'll just have the Registered, Moderators, and Owners group. In the meantime, however, we could manually add some for you, just let me know what additional groups you'd like to add and we'll put them in.
Hmm... I'll have to check and see why the emails that are getting sent are blank. Pending means that they need to validate their account. Normally, the email should include a link to validate the account, which will then add them to the group. You can always send out an additional email by using the Account Settings (in the login menu at the top). It should pull up a box where you can edit your account address, and when you save it a new email will be sent.
Sounds like a bug! We'll look into this.
Probably another bug! The Site Editor is a little older and we're in the process of redoing it, although the bugs should be pretty easy on our end to take care of.
There are two types of resources that your site will have: a community index and a forum. A community organizes the forums on your home page, so it has only three roles (manager, reader, and blocked). Individual forums will have their own set of roles (manager, reader, participant, and blocked), so you just need to set the roles for each individual forum in the Site Editor.
Yes, that would work okay. Another solution would be to set your community (your home page) to read access, and then set all of the individual forums to private. Then add one more forum for new people to post an introduction about themselves, where you can add them into the group.
You should be able to add in images by clicking on the "Select Files..." button which will then put them in automatically - seems like you may have found another bug. We should be able to get this fixed in the next day or two. As far as images from other sites, it's possible that some sites block image referrals from other sites, so I'm not quite sure why it's not working, that's something that we'll look into as well. And the smileys do work here, so I think them not working on your site may be related to the theme you're using, I think we can fix that pretty easily.
